Fellowship 2025

Become a Fall 2025 Fellow!

The TGHI Fellowship is an immersive term-long educational program (September - December) that brings together a cohort of passionate undergraduate students from all backgrounds. Our goal is to spark curiosity and cultivate interest in the exciting space of digital innovations in global health. We will offer unique opportunities for students to not only gain exposure to the fundamentals but also get hands-on technical skills, fostering an engaging learning experience in this intersection of global health and technology.

Our 2025 Fellowship will be split into several exciting units covering different areas of global health technology (see more below). The weekly fellowship will be run by our Education Directors and our Technology Directors will run supplementary technical workshops.

Apply by 11:59pm on Saturday, September 13, 2025 by going to www.tinyurl.com/tghi-apply-f25 or clicking the button below. We’re excited to meet you.

No background in global health, engineering, or computer science is required—we are looking for students with a passion to learn about this evolving field.

2025 Fellowship Units

  • An exploration of health economics covering cost-benefit modeling, healthcare financing and insurance structures, global case studies, and applications to social determinants of health, supported by guest speakers and interactive modeling sessions.

  • An introduction to diagnostic technologies in global health that examines commercialization challenges of point-of-care devices, includes biotech guest sessions, and highlights pathways for innovation in resource-limited settings.

  • A global examination of disaster response that integrates perspectives on technology, data use, ethical dilemmas, and algorithmic decision-making. One of TGHI’s project teams, Project MADE, also has experience developing technology for resource allocation in disasters, in partnership with Health Tech Without Borders in the Ukraine and USA.

  • An introduction to telemedicine and the different forms it may take. We will take a look at telehealth use during COVID-19, and the overall current and future presence of telemedicine in the healthcare industry.

  • An exploration of how AI is currently integrated in healthcare, and the potential benefits and drawbacks of AI-powered healthcare tools. We will also hold a debate on whether AI tools in healthcare should be limited until we fully understand their ethical risks!

  • All Fellows will work in teams over the last several weeks of the fellowship to develop a project applying technology to a global health topic of their interest. Past projects include an AI chatbot for mental wellness, an automated health insurance recommendation system, a neural network for early identification of conditions from fMRI imaging, and more! This is your opportunity to get hands-on experience with a topic in global health technology that you want to learn more about. All teams present their projects to each other & the general public in our final symposium!

Fellowship FAQ

  • Weeks 0 to 6: ~1.5-2 hours a week of Fellowship meetings.

Weeks 6 to 12: Participants will spend an additional 1 to 2 hours outside of Fellowship meetings to work on their projects.

  • We do not have a cap to the number of students in the fellowship, but it is typically around 15 students.

  • You will fill out a short application by Wednesday, September 10th, 2025 @ 11:59 PM. We will schedule preliminary conversations on September 11-13th to introduce you to the comp process, with the final deliverable due on September 19th. Those who complete the comp process will start the fellowship the week of September 22nd!

  • Genuine interest (this does not necessarily mean experience!) in tackling complex global health problems with technology. We look for humble, self-motivated, and compassionate students with a hunger to learn from others and work on projects that contribute to the health of real communities.

  • Not at all. Just tell us why you are interested in global health! Of course, previous experience is very welcome and we love to hear about the cool things you have done so far.

If you have no experience, don’t worry at all. We believe the point of college is to explore new things.

  • In some weeks, Co-Directors of Education will lead fellowship meetings. In other weeks, we will invite professors, executives of global health organizations, and healthcare professionals to lead case studies and speak at our fellowship meetings. Our Co-Directors of Technology will lead technical workshops.

  • Our Fellowship is the only educational student-run initiative for undergraduates to learn about the intersection of global health and technology at Harvard. You will gain exposure to the fundamentals of global health technology and basic skills in Python and Figma.

You will also meet and have interactive discussions with professors, founders of global health organizations, and professionals from various fields, which is unique to our Fellowship.

After you complete the Fellowship, you will be guaranteed a spot on our Spring case teams.
